Don’t show up for traffic court in person, Provincial Court reminds Albertans

by Stephen Dafoe

If you are fighting your traffic ticket before Sept. 4, the Provincial Court wants to remind you not to show up in person.

Despite COVID-19 changes to normal court proceedings, the Provincial Court is finding there are still too many Albertans coming to Traffic Court thinking that their matter will be heard in person.

They ask both defendants and witnesses to contact the courthouse by phone or email ahead of the date. However, you must contact the courthouse when the ticket says you must appear by telephone or email.

Those who have a mandatory court ticket or who were released by the Court on a Release Order and fail to contact Traffic Court on or before the scheduled appearance date may have an arrest warrant issued.
