Rock’n August rolling through Cardiff and Morinville Saturday afternoon

by Stephen Dafoe

The Rock’n August car show has been a staple of summer entertainment in St. Albert, drawing many Morinville and Sturgeon County residents south to enjoy vintage vehicles. But this year, the cars are coming to Morinville and Cardiff.

The 2020 Country Cruise takes place Saturday, Aug. 8, leaving the Century Casino in St. Albert at 2 p.m. They will head to Edmonton Garrison, then to Cardiff on Highway 2. After making a loop through Cardiff, the vehicles will drive through some Morinville neighbourhoods and finish in Legal with an end loop at the Chateau Sturgeon Seniors residence.

A turn-by-turn guide of the road trip is on the Rock’n August website.

Rick Dory is a board member with Rock’n August through his affiliation with the Edmonton International Cosmopolitan Club. They, along with the St. Albert Cosmopolitan Club, St. Albert Cruisers Car Club and the Federation of Eagles (St. Albert) have been putting on RocknAugust for the past 24 years.

“Rock’n August has traditionally had close to 900 cars register for our Saturday show’n shine and hundreds of cars joining our weekly events with thousands of spectators enjoying the music and all manner of vehicles,” Dory said. “Due to COVID, this cruise may be a once in a lifetime experience to have this many classic, exotic and unique vehicles driving down your street in a short time frame.”

Dory and other organizers are encouraging musicians along the Country Cruise route to play along the way to fill the music component that has always put the rock in Rock’n August.

“I really hope folks can get out and enjoy what we’ve been able to put together this year and take advantage of the businesses that have offered Rock’n August specials and who have supported us to make this event all that it could be considering the current climate,” Dory said.

Full details on the event are on the Rock’n August website at
